Deep in the Heart of Texas

Recap of LebanonTurf at the 2018 Golf Industry Show

They say that “everything is bigger in Texas,” and LebanonTurf did Texas proud last week at the 2018 Golf Industry Show in San Antonio. We had one of our busiest years ever at our booth, with several promotions and activities that kept the energy going all week long. If you came to the show, we’d like to extend a Texas-sized “thank you,” but if you weren’t able to attend, don’t worry. We’ve got a full recap of our activities from the show right here.

True Performance Turfgrass Program

We unveiled a management program for golf course greens at the show called the True Performance Turfgrass Program. The program, backed by two university studies, features Country Club M.D. and Emerald Isle Solutions to improve the health, playability and overall stress management of cool-season putting greens.

Our Territory Sales Managers spent time in the booth talking about the program with attendees, getting them set up to begin using it this year. If you’re interested in signing up, please talk to your local LebanonTurf sales representative or visit our website.

Country Club Free Trial

Highly successful at the show was the offer for a free trial bag of Country Club MD 18-0-18. Each 15 lb. trial bag contains enough fertilizer to apply .5# N an K and 5.357 sq. ft. Country Club M.D. utilizes a unique, highly dispersing granule technology and contains the stress-buffering biostimulants sea plant kelp and humic acid.

Dog of the Year

The puppy love continued at the show with our annual voting for our Dog of the Year. We took the 14 dogs in our GCSAA “Dog Days of Golf” calendar and put them up for a vote. Dog owners campaigned to get people to rock the vote for their dogs.

The grand prize is a $3,000 donation to the superintendent’s local GCSAA chapter and a $500 cash prize for the dog owner. In addition, we proudly donated $2,000 to K9’s for Warriors, an organization that “provides service canines to our Warriors suffering from Post-traumatic Stress Disability, traumatic brain injury, and/or military sexual trauma as a result of military service post-9/11.” We even had a service dog and trainer at our booth for the presentation of the donation. A big thank you to “Dee and Dapper”.

As for the Dog of the Year, we received a record number of votes, and the winner was Shasta! She’s a three-and-a-half-year-old shepherd that works hard defending Marine Drive Golf Club in South Vancouver, British Columbia.

Prize Wheel

As always, our prize wheel was a hit at the show, and we had some great prizes this year! You could win sunscreen, a travel kit, and other items, but the star of the wheel was the fidget spinner. We can definitely understand that anxious attendees want to fidget with their toys on the show floor or even on their flights back home.

GCSAA TV Live

Once again, we sponsored the GCSAA TV live stage at the Golf Industry Show. The stage produced more than 15 hours of live coverage during the show, plus dozens of feature stories and booth tours on the GCSAA.TV website.

Chris Gray, Golf Channel Manager from LebanonTurf, kicked off each day of the show with a conversation on the live stage talking about all the LebanonTurf promotions. Be sure to check out our live segments from Wednesday and Thursday (as well as other segments) at GCSAA.TV.

Flyaway Geese Dog Giveaway

It’s no secret that we love dogs at LebanonTurf, and as expected, the dogs stole the show in San Antonio. We partnered with Flyaway Geese and the GCSAA to give away two professionally trained goosedogs to two lucky superintendents. We did one giveaway at the end of each day of the show, and it drew a crowd each time.

We also marveled at the goosedog training demonstrations at the putting green behind the live stage at the show. These dogs expertly herded ducks (they can’t use geese for training) around the green, obeying every command from their trainers. They also had three ten-week-old puppies at their booth, and you can’t beat that.

We’re proud to partner with these organizations to promote environmentally friendly golf course practices, support golf course superintendents, and share in a true love of man’s best friend.

Thanks to everyone who joined us at the show, followed us on social media, or watched the live coverage on GCSAA TV. We hope to see you all next year in San Diego!
